The reason I ask is, some programs today offer online updates for approved beta corrections or additions. I would think you have to request such updates, but I have seen it where the downloads request approval to execute (i.e.: Adobe, etc.) Since ZoneAlarm is free, I want to know before I use it. Does anyone know?
Chosen Answer:
The first answerer is flat out wrong. A firewall will not be replaced by AVG. Spybot is pretty out of date too.
Zonealarm consistently gets high ratings, although if you are worried about policeware, it won’t detect that.
Zonealarm is very easy to use. Configure any application that needs to access the Internet — your web browser, any program that uses the Internet with “Yes”. If a program says it needs to act as a server, it may very well need to if it’s IM, or file sharing, or such.
Programs like zonealarm can help disable spyware or viruses until they are properly removed.

You don’t really even need to use zonealarm anymore…
Check out Spybot and AVG – those programs alone will keep you safe
But if you’re running zonealarm, it could be blocking updates from happening

What will happen is if you want to update or it has an update for this software it will want to get out Zone alarm will ask do you want this program out you then click yes I set mine to ask when it wants to update and Zone Alarm will ask me. If you trust the program check the box and it will never ask you again
